If an artiste can be inclined to paint such a cabinet raspberry red, lemon yellow or orange orange, anything is possible for the externals or entrails.

The wife is already making noises about the DuMont console being too big to allow for bookshelves in the LR, we have 10 boxes of books never unpacked from the last move and nowhere to put them, so she has a point, and the custom stereo cabinet we also have in there as well is only 40" wide, meanwhile we have no access to books stored in boxes in the basement. I envy those with adequate space for console collecting, but like anything mechanical and/or electrical they need to be restored and placed where they can be used or they'll suffer over time.
Ah, the classic problem. At least for Americans; we are fascinated with our stuff, aren't we? Some of us more than others (Chris raises his hand).

Hand up as well, plus ample storage.
Add a local market where you're the only serious buyer and willing to go 100 + miles without a second thought, sometimes even loading up without help.

With 900 sq ft I wish we had even marginally adequate space, much less ample. We can't have more than 4 for dinner, with no DR and a kitchen with a 3 person table that has to be pushed up against the wall, even Thanksgiving has to be at one of the kid's houses. With a 14 x 17 LR, when it comes down to wife's desire for bookshelves vs 2 consoles in there, I know how that's gonna turn out :-( We also have a vintage '61 RCA CTC-11 in there that I will part with only over my dead body, so I have a feeling another console is headed to PA for, hopefully, a better future.

There are no Dumont or Emerson consoles in my collection, so it will motivate me to move another SS unit along.

Cabinet on the Fisher CE-IV is a great piece, compared to the fancy but unfashionable Fisher cabinet I will dispatch. I only have space for two Fishers anyway and the bonus is the speakers are already inside 8-) . I will have enough spare parts in case there are some problems.

Works for me! I’ll prob put the CE IV electronics into my compact Ethan Allen console then my wife can have her bookshelves at last. The Scott system fits in my “office” well by sitting on a low-boy dresser with a TT, the ADS speakers on a bookshelf and a file cabinet, and they all can remain where they are. Re-arranging is a constant around here. The upside is we won’t (can’t) leave 18 garages full of stuff to our kids like my late Uncle did. His estate still isnt settled almost 2 years on. He didn’t do them any favors.

It sorta depends. I think I posted here that my grandmother had saved all the letters her sons sent from college WW II and all the letters their wives sent her during WW II and after. I am so grateful that those were preserved, as were all the ones my Dad sent to my Mom during the war--and a bunch of others. Priceless and revealing. On the other hand, clearing the saved magazines out of my Mom's house has involved just tossing. Yeah, old magazines are cool, and yeah, I could probably sell the ads like others do online, but I've got a real job and life is short. On the latter subject, I'm home today after having a coronary catheterization this a.m. There was a possibility of needing a coronary artery bypass graft--"bypass surgery"-- and that meant yikes!!! Caregivers would have to enter my home!! Ad that meant getting the house organized, and that meant starting to prune my own magazine collection. All those ones saved in case I wanted to look something up later? Well, how often have I done that? (Answer: damned close to never, with a couple exceptions for special-interest publications. I'll keep the last few years of Practical Sailor, all the copies of Audio Amateur, and all of the '3-'38 Buick Club publication).

So it was off to the recycling bins yesterday between rain showers, with more to come.

But the news was good today. Yeah, the heart is plugged up but I'm an all-star in the exercise and diet realms so we'll go with "medical management." No cutting open right now.

I'm sorry to hear of your health problems, Chris. Didn't you have by-pass surgery a few years back? I remember you sharing on Vintage having something done to your heart. Stents maybe? I'm glad, at least for now, that you have avoided the surgery and you can do medical management, whatever that is. Medication I imagine.

As we get older health things seem to popup more often. I had my meniscus repaired in my right knee earlier this year but have had some complications. The good thing, I have had NO pain during or since the surgery. I have a friend that was put on a statin this past March. He has heart troubles as well and has had two ablations and has a pacemaker and has had a TIA. The said the statin was a standard drug to use along with his blood thinner to help prevent another TIA or worse a stroke. He had a huge reaction to the statin and is no one a long-term steroid treatment. Fortunately, the dosage of the steroid started out low and he is now on the tapering off dosage.

I wish you the best, Chris and hope you can avoid the "surgery" as long as possible.

By the way, the statin he got was the generic version of Lipitor, which is the worst statin for reactions.

Glad it worked out for the best Chris, even a cardiac cath is nothing to sneeze at, hope the diet &c does the trick.
Steroids are no joke either, I've been on prednisone for 9 years now for PMR and it's caused 20 lbs of weight gain and thrown me close to Type II diabetes, well known side effects. I'm not very good at lifestyle changes that help, so like most Americans I depend on "better living through chemistry".

Old letters are among the kind of things that ought to be saved, they aren't just objects, unlike 18 garages worth of restored and rusty old Ford parts and 2 garages of electronic stuff and RC planes. I did benefit somewhat, got some good test equipment, speakers, TT, and such, however I took probably only 1% of what was there. It took my cousin and me about a year just to deal with the cars and parts. I took none of it, though I was tempted by his '39 Olds, but I still need to finish our summer camp, my '69 Olds, 2 early '70s motorcycles, plus boats that always need something.

This topic has run off the rails, guys. Comments about a fake Magnavox, please, or start another topic.
