Circa 1970 Sears "Wildcat" similar Stereo

[Hi-Fi-Mogul]

I was the only bidder on this pull down stereo for a great price,
I think, because it lacked a spindle.

I saw it had a BSR changer, so I knew it would be a breeze
to service. I liked the green color, also, because it will attract
a buyer.
The color is like in photo two, more blue-green than olive.

I found on dis-assembly, that the SS amplifier is mounted to
the all plastic BSR changer base. A bit unusual.

There is an access hole in the rear of the plastic cabinet,
so you can flip up one of the retaining clips on a shipping
bolt.
Then lifting the rear of the changer, you just slip out the
changer from the cabinet.

I had some BSR spindles, and found the right one for the
C148 changer.
The Pfanstiehl P-182 equivalent cartridge got a new
Pfanstiehl 274 stylus.

After a good cleaning of cabinet, changer mech and motor,
I gave it a try. The amp is quiet and the idler still pulls good.

The sound is pretty darn good, and plenty of volume.

I'm glad I took a chance on this cutie.

I wonder how many of those units were Christmas presents back in the day. It's also interesting to note that for what they were, they are good little performers. Nice job, Mr. Mogul.

Greg, I have no clues from the Sears player
on who manufactured the cabinet/amplifier.

If I knew how to cross-index the SS amp's pc board
notations, maybe it would tell me that manufacturer.

One would think there would be an EIA number somewhere. I wonder if that was new enough that Sanyo may be a possible source.
