Musicals

Post: # 4772Post TC Chris »

Our public radio station has a weekly musical-theater program based on a big LP collection donated to them. Right now they're playing "Oklahoma." When it comes to this I'll gladly indulge in old-fartism. I'm singin' along and grinning. Rogers & Hammerstein give us such gifts. Oklahoma, South Pacific, and Carousel rate as high art in my book.

In another genre entirely, my favorite blues show, "The Juke Joint," will be on at 8p.m. tomorrow (Sunday) for three hours of good music. Here's what the host sent me:

Sunday night on "The Juke Joint" broadcast I will note the passing of Bruce Bromberg who produced award-winning recordings by Robert Cray and Joe Louis Walker, among others. I will also note the passing of Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, Ronnie Spector, and her work with the Ronettes; Rosa Lee Hawkins of the Dixie Cups and songwriter Dallas Frazier whose songs were covered by Slim Harpo, Charlie Rich and Merle Haggard and I'll spin some new releases by Tinsley Ellis and Corey Harris. This is Robert Barclay, join me Sunday night from 8:00-11:00 pm (eastern time) on WCMU Public Radio and online: radio.wcmu.edu
