Sing Along With Mitch

Post: # 4763Post electra225 »

A friend gave me his collection of Mitch Miller records when his wife passed away. They are all mono, but they are in nice shape. I put a stack of them on the Symphony and they sure brought back memories. Songs you just don't hear anymore. "Cecilia", "The Sweetheart of Sigma KI", "Did You Ever See A Dream Walking", "Paddlin' Madeline Home". All sung in four-part barbershop harmony. I always thought there was a harmonica in his band. I think now that it was an accordian, tuned like a harmonica. Mitch Miller was quite the character. He refused to record rock and roll music when he was A&R man at Columbia. Rosie Clooney hated him. She signed with RCA in 1963. Frank Sinatra thought Miller had killed his career in the early 1950's sending Sinatra to Capitol. Miller passed on signing Elvis Presley. No matter, he did a nice job with the Sing Along With Mitch records and made Columbia a fortune on them and the TV show.
