There is another heat/magnetism issue more closely related to audio. Some audio cassettes develop deterioration of the binder that makes the tape sticky. The stickiness causes catch-and-release movement across the tape heads at a high audio frequency--a squeal that you can hear in the audio feed and even in the air with the volume down.
If you want to transcribe the tape you can bake it in the oven at a specific temp and it will be temporarily playable. I've saved the article somewhere but it's probably available by online search. Seems to me the temp was 150 deg. F. Apparently it does not affect the oxide magnetism.
