Altec Lansing 601B Unionville, In. $40
If these speakers have in them what they say on the back (601B) I'm surprised that they haven't already sold. Maybe since they're not advertised as Altec is the reason they're not getting much attention. I did a little reading on them, and the tweeters are prone to go bad. Even if they're bad and the woofer works they're still worth more than the asking price. If I needed some speakers I'd go check them out but since they're about 120 miles away and I don't need any more speakers I think I'll pass on them.

I saw "Unionville" and started heading for my truck. But wait... that is IN, my U'ville is in MI.

They are selling four speakers, if I understand the ad correctly. Two Altec-Lansing, the big Radio Shack speaker to the left and the smaller one in front....

Yes, two mismatched Realistic and two what seems to be Altec Lansing speakers. You'd have to look inside to verify what they are but since it has what appears to be Altec divider networks there's a good chance that the speakers inside are actually 601B like is written on the back of them. The 601B is supposed to be a 414 woofer with the tweeter added to it so if the tweeters don't work a person would still have two good woofers to work with.
I checked just a few minutes ago and they're still listed. Eventually someone will notice the Altec tag and snatch these up. I have to keep convincing myself that I don't need any more speakers.

Yeah, she thinks I have too much electronic stuff already. I think she's probably right, but I don't think I'll ever admit it to her.
I sell a little bit ever so often but I have the feeling she would like to see it go faster than it has been.
I wish I could find a pair of speakers that really satisfies me but it probably won't ever happen because I'm not willing to spend big bucks for a pair.

I've only owned one set of speakers in my lifetime that I genuinely liked. A set of Peavey studio speakers with an 18" woofer, 12" driver and two horns. Connected to my Pioneer SX-1050, these speakers were lethal. They would shake the wife's geegaws off the wall and even off shelves on occasion. She finally gave me a choice. The speakers or her. I question my ultimate decision at times......

Do you remember what model they were? I'm just curious to see what they look like. For some reason I have an attraction to big speakers.electra225 wrote: ↑Wed May 06, 2026 5:01 pm I've only owned one set of speakers in my lifetime that I genuinely liked. You should know better than shake your wife's geegaws off the wall. You didn't do it on purpose did you.

Danny, I'm sorry, I don't remember. Not sure I ever knew what model they were. I did some work on a guy's car. Kind of a detailed project, took some time to get it all done. His wife left him in the interim and he couldn't pay me all he owed me. The guy was a biker and told me "a brother in the club" had stolen them, owed him some money, so he ended up with them. He had no use for them, I was a pushover, so I took the speakers for what he owed. The speakers were in huge cabinets on casters with a metal grill over the speakers. There were handles on the sides of the cabinets. Took two guys to load them in a pickup or whatever. They were rated at 600 watts (real, not "peak"). The SX-1050 didn't even make them work hard. The guy I sold them to told me that these speakers were typically used in stadiums or venues where concerts were held and were made to run under insane volume levels. Maybe four feet tall, 30 inches wide, 20 inches deep. Had a black metal grill over the speakers with a chrome "Peavey" script in the metal grill. Cabinets finished in that dark gray rough material typical of Peavey cabinets. Had chrome corner protectors. Really too industrial and aggressive for home use, but OMG did they sound nice. I regret selling them.
I found this. Very close to the ones I had. The 18" speaker was on the bottom, the 12" above it with a horizonal horn on top and a vertical horn on the side by the smaller speaker.

I'm probably better off not knowing what model they were that way I won't be on the lookout for a pair. If I found some and bought them my wife might (probably would) give me an ultimatum like yours did.
