Hi Doug and welcome to the forum. It sounds like you have a ton of knowledge to share and you have a few consoles that we would like to know more about. We love stories and photos but there are a couple of things you need to do before becoming an official member and they are found under rules, upper LH corning on your screen. You actually have completed the first rule by introducing yourself here in "Introductions" so you are part way there. Please take a few minutes to finish your membership and then post a couple of more times, once that is complete you are all set. Thank you Doug for finding our little forum, I think you will enjoy being here, and we forward to having you on board.

Yay for people with knowledge! I fumble through my projects with the help of schematics and advice of others, and learn a lot from people who know more.

Share photos of your projects and your shop. My work space usually ends up being the top of the table saw out in the garage shop.

One day I'll have work bench set up.
No current electronic projects
Doing a web search on a magnavox switch assembly that I had in stock I found this site.

Welcome Doug, its interesting to hear how repairs went in the early 70s, having entered the trade in late 70's.

Then I was a lone voice defending all things using tubes as more serviceable, now happy to be proven right 45 years later!

Posting about test equipment is often as interesting as a radio or record player, we welcome anything you want to share.

My dad had a shop around early 50s,then got a real job working for a tech testing center for military. He kept repairing part time and his shop was in our basement and that's were I learned. I also built test equipment from Eico kits.
Those were the better days

I wish I would have had that opportunity, and I almost did except the person I thought would mentor me said no we don't have time. This was from my real first job at 14 working for the local Gamble Store. The TV/electronic repair guy was the owners son-in-law and when I arrived after school there were delivers to be made or other things to do. Now in my senior years I am trying to learn but have plenty of struggles do it. Thankfully, there are all of you guys here on the forum that have been wiling to give me advice and steer me in the right direct. I truly do appreciate it.

My stepdad was the local GE dealer. He thought anything GE made was the best you could get, regardless of price. He sold the full line, appliances and home electronics. He hated TV repair and refused to teach me because he thought it was a miserable way to make a living. He was a natural at electronics, but he got his early training in the military during WW2. I thought he was a jerk so I didn't hang around his store much. I worked for the local Zenith dealer when I was 13. My job was to get the TV's ready so that Mr. Wells could make adjustments on them while the test pattern was on Channel 10. Mom and my stepdad were married in 1970 and we got to be great friends. He was good to me and was my first elmer. I still have a loose-leaf binder of notes he made over the years. I refer to them often, particularly if I work on a TV. His thing was boatanchors. He was a Hallicrafters man..... ;) ;)

I highly suggest look up ham vests in your state. in ohio they are 1-2 month.
Some are small.only hams related .others will have a flea market, parts test eq. Good bargains..many are older may take u under their wing to help with electronics
Might even get free stuff
Have a great week
Doug
