Free to forum members, Magnavox R204 chassis parts
I am in the process of taking this thing apart and all the pieces are available. Transformers, boards, dial, controls, function switches the whole thing. I will offer these parts to members of the forum for no charge other than shipping. I'm in the process of opening a FedEx account. We have a FedEx office in the store, so it will be convenient for me. Shipping prices are horrible, maybe I can get more reasonable shipping this way. I also am going to sell some tubes and other parts I am not going to use and don't want to store and work around. If nobody wants these parts in a reasonable amount of time, they go to the landfill. Sorry, guys, I can't store things I'm not using. If someone wants all the parts from this chassis, they will go into a smaller box and be cheaper to ship than the complete chassis. If there is interest, I can provide pictures of pieces or all. Thanks.

I'm up for a volume control... was trying to revive my boss's parents' Astro-Sonic and can't remember the chassis no., but it looked similar so the pot may be the same. The local unit has a discontinuity--no sound from one channel until advanced TOO LOUD. I couldn't do too much diagnosis because they had one of those nasty small dogs that was trying to eat my ankles. It has gone to doggie heaven, thank goodness.

Can you give me some specs for the volume control, or maybe post a picture of what it looks like? There are two function switches, two smaller stepped switches, I think those are tone controls. I don't have the trim that tells what controls are what. If we can get you the right one, you are sure welcome to it. The balance control is on the chassis, so that leaves the one that was on one end of the chassis as a possibility.
I snapped a shot of the controls I have. The left one is 500K and the right one looks like it is tapped. I don't see any markings on the right one. Will either of these work for you?

The control on the left is the volume control. The one on the right is the timbre control, so strike that one. Will the one on the left work for you, Chris?

I'll have to see if I can get in to remove the chassis. Last time I was trying to diagnose while their wretched tiny dog kept having conniptions. Now that one is dead but they have two more--one nice brown dog and another tiny version that is only sightly less malicious. Last time I was afraid of the Molex connectors, fearing something would break if I tried to pull them apart. Any advice on dealing with Molex, which must be Latin for "Perplexing"??

The Molex connector should pull apart. Sometimes they can be stuck. I wouldn't use a tool of any kind to pry it apart. Wiggling helps get it apart.
