Did the plug finally get pulled?

Post: # 1411Post Firedome »

VHF.net appears to be no longer a valid URL, wonder if it finally got put out of it's misery? Will never understand the kind of indifference and neglect that killed a once interesting and vital site.... RIP.

My guess is that the site has been removed. There is no evidence that it ever existed. Searches bring up nothing. The first of September, give or take, was when Vintage went online back in 2014. My thought was that if something was going to happen, pro or con, it would be around that time. The moderators and I have been talking about this for a few days. I hope we will continue our effort so this forum can continue the legacy started on Vintage.

Well, you're doing 200% more to make the site a success than the late VHF. Even as is, it looks both good and successful.

Without you and Bill and our magnificent membership, success would not be possible. Thank you for your kind words, but all I did was to start this forum. YOU guys are making it successful! :D :D

The fact, that you took the initiative to create this forum blows me away. I would never have even considered such a task, and you just up and did it. The credit goes to you Greg, and we all thank you for doing it.

Looks like it's totally gone which is sad because there was a lot of good information on it.

Well, it's time to stock these shelves with useful information and pictures and make this place something we can all be proud of.

I'm sure we all have info that could be shared like before ...once we have the ability to , I think Greg is trying to figure out how, but... to just allow people to sign up and do nothing but download the info is not the way to go in my opinion... maybe it should require a min of posts before someone is granted access... or you will see like the old site ... lots of people sign up , but once they get what they need they disappear forever ...or require a donation? I don't know just spitballing here...

Your comments are well-taken and much appreciated.

This may sound strange, but how soon I get my new shop built will depend on which moves we can make and when we can make them. Everything I own, as far as this hobby goes, is in storage. The moderators and I have decided on a course of action for the smaller details. The archives will be more of a challenge. How to present them in an orderly, easy to find format. I'd like to expand on what was on Vintage to include texts on radio repair, TV repair, things like that. Maybe a list of suppliers and vendors. There are several ideas that have been offered that are under consideration. We'll take this in steps and include anyone who would care to offer their two cents in the decision. This forum is just getting started. I appreciate each and every one of you.

Way out of my league here, but doesn't it cost money to store files like the old PDF catalogs VHF had? How about a minimal fee for access ? to cover the cost and keep the forum in the black? .25 a download ? Free with yearly donation? Hydro

Good idea, on AW.o downloads for appliance manuals and brochures are $.99 up, of course that's often for multiple pages and often color images, but some kind of charge seems reasonable for downloads of manuals, brochures, documents &c.

Just my $.02 but seems to me expanding into TV repair might be unnecessary, that info is already readily available on
videokarma and the group there is pretty low key, unlike it's audio brother, and ARF also has a pretty helpful TV group.
This site is pretty console focused, and should remain so imo, why re-invent the wheel.

Stereo Theater type TV was what I was referring to. Neither of the sites you mentioned have interest in "aircraft carriers".

Certainly the audio section at least.

A lady on CL here had her parents Zenith "aircraft carrier" with a roundie vacuum tube color TV and SS amp for sale for months and months off and on, starting at $900, and finally dropped it a little, but afaik it never sold, it was still for sale last time I looked. It's in mint condition and her parents had paid a fortune for it 54 years ago, so it must still be worth a fortune, right?
