Cable organizing

Post: # 13676Post TC Chris »

There is much grumbling about rats' nests of wires in Magnavox sets, especially. AES just posted a "new product" notice about self-adhesive wire clips:

I have something similar, and I got them either at ACE or one of the box stores. They work good but you need to make sure the surface you are sticking them to is really clean.

No matter what you use on a Magnavox stereo, you'll still have a rat's nest of wires. It might be an ORGANIZED rat's nest, but a rat's nest nonetheless...... ;)

Maybe it was on purpose. A coil of wires has another name--a choke. I recall reading somewhere that it's not wise to coil up your extension cords because it limits AC current. I've never studied the physics of it to see what the inductance of a coiled extension cord might be at 60 Hz, but it gave me permission to be messy. Not that I need convincing....

In my work, we have used this system for years. You can cut and replace the wire tie holding them to it. It does like clean surfaces, too. https://www.amazon.com/Adhesive-Managem ... 125&sr=8-3

Rex, I used that system to tie up and help keep/organized the 100's of wires used in my theater pipe organ as well as the other organs I have helped rebuild and install. They work very well, but like you said, they need a clean surface.

I'll bet there are folks who think such wiring didn't exist 'til computers came along. :)
