I always enjoy hearing and watching Oscar play. His large hands and long fingers effortlessly glide over the 88's as he creates beautiful music.

Re: Oscar Peterson Trio
Makes me miss smoking... smooth jazz, a cigarette and a Gibson Martini and I'm set!
Re: Oscar Peterson Trio
I love Oscar Peterson, you can totally tell he had classical training, it really sets him apart. He even established the Oscar Peterson Program at the Royal Conservatory of Music (he's Canadian). Erroll Garner is another of that generation of pianists
gen I love, a genius who couldn't even read music, so there you go... genius will out, regardless.

Re: Oscar Peterson Trio
I just listened to an Erroll Garner reel to reel tape, while I was making supper, and I have no idea where I got it. The first piece he played was his legendary "MISTY" complete with combo. All the songs after that were jazz arrangements of various songs, both solo and with combo.

Re: Oscar Peterson Trio
I laugh. As a reformed smoker, I knew right away what another ex-sinner said: "If I was told I had a disease that was certainly fatal, the first thing I'd do is start smoking again." The rational part of my brain keeps me away from the cancer sticks, but there's that other part that loves a whiff of second-hand smoke.
For 30 years I'd set off for Canada in the spring for a week's fishing with buddies who were teachers (by the end of the school year, their wives were happy to see them gone for a week). Another guy and I would smoke Canadian cigarettes. It was like rolling your own with dollar bills.... The there was the three days' withdrawal when I got home and back to real life.
The best thing about smoking--and Peanut M&Ms--is that it helps me understand addiction.

Re: Oscar Peterson Trio
Great Trios and Quartets are always amazing in producing a full room
of sound from only 3-4 players.
I saw the original Ventures
30 years ago when they were doing a
U.S. small venue gig tour.
They were so proficient and artistic that it
sounded like 10 people performing, not just 4.
And I got all of their autographs, too !
Super nice guys, all.
