Spring Dust-off... first run.

Post: # 7593Post Firedome »

For us Nothern-ers, our good cars are stored for half of the year. Olds Club (OCA) chapters in those climates call their first meet of the year where cars are driven to the meeting their "Spring Dust Off" meet. No local Olds club around here, but it was a beautiful sunny day in the 70s, so our personal Dust-Off and first check-out run on the road was today. During winter it's started &c in the garage every few weeks, as mentioned on Chris's thread.

Everything worked well, this Olds 350 is still the proverbial Rocket it should be... smooth, powerful, and authoritative sounding yet quiet-ish (I don't like loud, the drone is really annoying on trips). One of the best engines GM ever built imo. Noticed a very slight leak from the pan of the Jet-Away (Buick Super Turbine 300) 2 spd when I moved it out of the garage, so some Lucas is in order. Otherwise she needs some of the usual minor stuff of old car: noticed a rubber window seal that needs replaced, work is needed on the faded rear package tray, etc...an old car is never done. Got a few photos before I put her away.

Thanks Bill! it's a 4 dr hardtop aka "Holiday Sedan". That's my moniker on the Olds web groups. I've always preferred the rear seat access yet sporty roofline with no "B" post of 4 dr hardtops, and on an "A" body Olds it's the rarest body style, you'll never see another one at any show even the OCA shows, the Holiday Sedan body is far much more common on 88 and 98s. This one came out of Oklahoma and it took me years to find the right one.

Whether it was Oldsmobile or Buick that clean look was always my favorite. I actually have seen more Buicks with the open look than with posts. We did not have an Olds dealer close by, but we had a Buick, Pontiac, GMC, dealer and a Chevy dealer in town. Ford, Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth along with International Harvester too.

The wife's uncle had a '68 Chevelle Malibu in a four door hardtop. It was a 327, TH 400, dual exhaust special ordered car. Dark blue with light blue interior and a white vinyl top. It had air and AM-FM radio, but it had crank windows. I always liked that body style and it is seldom seen today.
Life can be tough. It can be even tougher if you're stupid.....
