Theme music

Post: # 6949Post electra225 »

Rex kinda got this started with Route 66, so how about we continue. My vote for one of the more complex theme music pieces would be Ferrante and Teicher's "Theme from 'The Apartment'", circa 1962 around the same time as Route 66.

A modern theme song I like is the one from "Yellowstone"

It does. Remember the theme from "Rawhide" by Frankie Laine? Remember "Moving on up to the East side to our DE LUXE apartment in the sky?" I posted instrumental pieces we used to play in dance band in high school. Obviously, we didn't play the Yellowstone one, that hadn't been invented all those years ago. We did Route 66 and the theme from "The Apartment". I don't remember the movie, but I loved the theme song. Our dance band was set up on a little stage like Lawrence Welk and Billy Vaughn did theirs. You had to try out, audition if you will, for dance band. We were pretty good for a bunch of high school kids. We didn't have two grand pianos, so we played the two-piano part for "The Apartment" with a grand and a spinet. Mr. Harris played the spinet, Dinah played the grand. Dinah must have used a piano bench for a crib when she was a baby, she was a natural-born piano player. She was three years older than I was, but she was really good. Our school did not have a grand piano until Dinah got old enough to be in dance band. Her dad was on the school board and got us a second-hand Hammond.

How about Henry Mancini's early works for TV, The themes from Peter Gunn and Mr. Lucky?

"Peter Gunn" won the first Grammy for TV themes, I believe. I still catch it every Monday morning at 5 AM on METV. What a cool show... the Mopars and his girlfriend Edie...

I'd trade places anytime.

Dave Brubeck Quartet with theme from "Mr. Broadway"
TV show.

It's on the "Jazz Impressions of New York" album.

One of the first Bru albums I bought, and still love.

Craig Stevens did a short reprise after
"Peter Gunn" in 1964, for 13 TV episodes.

TV episode with cool commercials.
Save your Raleigh coupons for lots of smokes !
And a sweet 1965 GTO commercial for you car
fans.
