I had the high honor of meeting Menno Duerkson one time. He was one of the most articulate men I ever met. An absolute warehouse of knowledge. One of the guys in our car club knew him. I started my subscription to Cars and Parts in 1981 or '82.

You guys and your air conditioners. My '69 4-4-2 had air until it went on strike and nobody could ever keep Freon in it. My Mustang has air but it went on strike in 1995 and I didn't refill it when the Freon leaked out right away. The '94 Ranger didn't have air (had sliding back window; loved that). but the '05 does, and miraculously, it still works. I have changed the air filter once. To do it you have to muscle the refrigerant hoses away from the housing. When I did that one of them hissed at me and I was afraid I'd killed it. Had the dealer check it out and they said it was OK. Maybe the filter needs a look-see again after the last 100K miles? My Dad always figured air was for the weak-willed and just one more thing to stop working, like electric windows. He didn't like either. The Mustang has both (it came to me used) and they support his theory.
