My recent find was part of a Magnavox SS console that sat on my uncle's basement workbench for decades then was "lost" in a downsizing move 6 years ago this month. This come-to-find-out R231-10 receiver out of a 1971 console of unknown origin had been sitting vertically, connected via alligator clips to 2 small 6" speakers housed in gray military-looking aluminium metal cube housings which sat on shelves along with his electronics test equipment. He loved to listen to big-band and jazz music while working on projects, he was a retired IBM EE and fixed his own TVs and radios, and built his own HAM and RC stuff, so had all the rest equipment needed, including 3 O-scopes, and a 1960 McIntosh system in the LR (now my cousin's) Being in Binghamton, he knew many Mc engineers who shared his HAM radio and RC airplane hobby.
Anyhow I helped him pack up his basement, including his HAM "shack", before the movers came so I knew he still had that receiver. Fast forward 6 years, he'd been confined to a wheelchair after he moved to the smaller house when my Aunt died, and hadn't touched any stuff moved to the new basement. He died last fall, then last month I was asked to help clean out and get ready for the house to go on sale. Much of the HAM gear, mostly home built, was donated to Binghamton university for their radio club and test equipment went to me and others who could use it. I was specifically looking for that long-remembered missing Maggie receiver, and finally found it under a table in a box on the basement floor, the 2 speakers were in the box next to it.
I think it may have been one of Magnavox's better models for that year, I remembered it had yellow & orange numbers/letters on the dial, and an extra row of buttons on the L side. I found the model number R231-10 DA. It's missing the escutcheon plate however he'd labeled the functions with a marker on the frame. I wish I knew where it came from and the fate of the rest of it. My goal now is to find the correct matching cabinet with RP, speakers etc. and put it back as it belongs. I've always been a fan of tube console models, but this seems like a very nice SS receiver. That's all for now, pictures coming when I get home tomorrow to my desktop.
Happy listening from Roger in NY!

Re: new Maggie!
Hi firedome!, Good to see some of you here.
That Maggie may have been one of the later with a slide-out chassis. It was not difficult to locate all the plugs, etc on an older chassis, say R222.
The R231 multi-pin plug had connection issues, mainly for the phono (used as aux in your case). The console I had with this chassis was a 3763 circa 1971, with the same "air-suspension 10" speakers crossover and horns. I soldered the phono-cables right to the selector switch and viola *** clean sound and no more hum.

Thanks for the tip Dave and for the Sams you sent, I'll have to try that soldering idea!

Welcome aboard, Dave! We're glad you are here. Jump right in and have fun!
Roger, I have an R204 Chassis out of a Stereo Theater if you could use it. It's really nice. I hate to toss it. It came in my Stereo Theater deal.

I haven't failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.....Thomas Alva Edison

Re: new Maggie!
Thanks for the offer Greg! I'm already full up with projects and if it had parts in common with an R231 it'd just end up being sacrificed for that purpose, so probably better to have it go to where it'd be saved and used as intended, I'd hate to part a conceivably usable Maggie receiver any major otherwise usable console parts for that matter. But much appreciate the offer!
