El Casa Del Consola is looking good!
Endicott where we live is full of 2nd and 3rd generation Italians, even a few 1st gen right off the boat, who came here to work in the giant shoe factory around the turn of the last century. So there loads of stucco houses here, I think they invented the stuff maybe, in any event hundreds of houses were stuccoed between the 1910s and right up to now. A new restaurant opened last year that looks like it came straight off the Amalfi coast of Italy.
One unfortunate result of so much old stucco is that many of the big 4 Squares and triple-deckers built 60 to 70 years ago have been converted to cheap apartments and have stucco literally falling off the walls in places. As long as no one gets hurt, I tend to cheer when one of them burns down, which happens fairly regularly. Poorly maintained stucco is a real eyesore when it gets old. It takes many decades, and I'm sure that won't be the case in the AZ climate.

El Casa Del Consola, huh? I like that.

The eyebrows over the windows are part of the HOA requirements. We have those on the house, gotta be on the shop as well. The rest of the popouts are like are on the house. The main wall will be medium gray, the popouts will be light gray, the french door and the trim around the roof will be dark gray, same as on the house.

Sounds attractive!
Do some houses in the Phoenix area have those logs that stick out along the roofline like my wife and I have seen in places like Santa Fe in NM, is that an Indian thing?

No, that's called "southwestern" architecture. They have a flat roof, something I'm not crazy about. They are attractive homes, but cost more to build.

I put another coat of paint on the ceiling and hung the fan. I don't know what or when the next operation will be.

Greg. it looks awesome. I couldn't be happier for you, and I'm sure you are thrilled. I hope they come back real soon and get it done for you. You have been without a shop long enough. :(

There is about a week's worth of work if they'd get to it. I figure another couple months before I have a shop. I need your organization skills. I have a tentative plan. We'll see how well it works.

I just spoke with the project manager. The plan is for the inspector to meet with us and the project manager on Thursday next. We have to water the stucco for two weeks to allow it to cure properly. After that time, the painters will come in, fix the cracks that naturally occur in stucco, then paint. When they are done, the roofers do their thing. In the meantime, they will dig the trench for the electrical supply line which needs to be three feet deep in this old hardpan dirt around here. I sure wish them luck with that. They have to dig under the fence and under the air conditioning unit for the house. There is a concern about having Tyvek on both sides of the wall. Mold, I believe is the issue. The county inspector will give us his input on that situation. IF he ixnays that plan, they will have to dig out the insulation on the walls and replace it with faced insualtion. They tried to save a few bucks, now that may bite them in the butt. I was told during our conversation with the project manager that we can schedule the tile floor before the end of April. I have been hearing that since September, so I'll believe that when I see it. The project manager is not happy with how the French doors are closing, so the door guy is coming out first of the week to reset the door. I've never liked the way it closed.

They'll probably use a Ditch Witch to do the trench, they'll have no problem. In VT we have to trench to 72" down to frostline.

My daughter's new house here in Denver is all stucco in 2 colors, will post pics when I get home, no smart phone (have an old flip) or camera to take pics with here...

Looks like it is coming within reach. It looks like it will be worth the wait.

Do we remember the days when we took pictures with a CAMERA and made telephone calls with a TELEPHONE? Now, owning a telephone is passe. A phone is not a telephone, but a computer with the capability of being used as a telephone. And it is also used as a camera. The wife and I went to a Mickey Gilley/Johnny Lee concert a couple years ago. We got to take pictures with the stars. Out of the 2,000 people there, I was the ONLY one to take pictures with a digital camera. Everybody else used their phone. 35MM film can still be had at Walmart. I have a friend who still takes film pictures.

I ran the first "air check" in the shop. You'll see by the picture that I had to import power. The Coke radio was the only tube radio I had not in storage that would work and that was portable. There are power lines between our wall and the road. I didn't get any noise and the sensitivity of the radio was as good in the shop as it is in the house, so I'm phsyched. KIKO 1340 AM "The Bull" comes in nice and clear. The accoustics in the shop appear to be satisfactory in this un-scientific test. A Concert Grand will tell me a lot more about accostics.

It's amusing. Your area has the reverse problem of ours. In heating-zones regions, moist air inside the building tends to migrate outward toward cold temps, causing it to condense when it hits the dew point in the insulation as it moves outward. We use "vapor barriers" or more properly moisture retarders inside, to keep the moisture from moving outward. Having the barrier inside lets the wall dry outward. In AC regions where it's cooler inside, the moisture will be condensing inward in the insulation, and the barrier is outside to keep the moisture from moving in and condensing. The wall driesto the inside. Of course, Tyvek is a permeable barrier. It keeps water out but not moisture. Maybe the real problem is your inner barrier of polyethylene, which won't allow moisture in the insulation to dry inward.

I have to explain to more current people that I use a flip phone. And it does not follow me wherever I go. A judge asked me to help an elderly lady today who claimed she had talked to somebody in my office. It was my first real in-court event in two years after all-Zoom work during the peak pandemic. I had to go out to my truck and retrieve my phone. And yeah, photos are with a camera. My parade video was with a Flip video device. New phones take better photos and better videos. I am just stubborn. Maybe I should send a photo of my kitchen phone. It has a mechanical dial. And yeah, when I want to "dial" a number I usually go grab the cordless landline with pushbuttons.

Chris, you are not alone. I still have a flip-phone and my 3G time is running out. I keep procrastinating so one of these day I won't have a phone. I'm waffling back and forth, flip or smart phone?? I need to make up my mind soon.

Oh, you're so old-fashioned. My flip phone is all up to date, 4G. Every time I get a new flip phone, its intelligibility is worse.

That is what I'm afraid of, Chris. I have an ancient iPad. I love the thing, it's easy to use and takes awesome photos. It's one of the smaller models so it will fit into my pants pocket. The best part, it was a gift so it was free. ;) :) With that dying, and my flip phone dying, do I get a new iPad and flip phone, or do an all in one with a smarty phone? Decision, decision!

What I'm afraid of is becoming one of those people walking down the sidewalk staring at my phone.

There is no danger of me doing that. I have all I can do to walk watching where I'm going. I don't see how they text and walk at the same time and use both thumbs. I can't text with both thumbs sitting down. I still hunt and peck.

I like my smart phone so I can check the forum while I'm at work. Otherwise, a flip phone would be fine for me.

I forgot to mention. I watered the stucco when I got home this evening. I'm paying these guys to build the shop for me, and how I got rooked into watering the stucco is beyond me. Why is that my responsibility? If this gets the job done, it's not that big of a deal. I called the project manager and told him that my tools and equipment were off limits to sub contractors. They leave my hose a mess, leave the nozzle all gritty and that has to be cleaned up before I wash the car. The wife gripes at me because the garden hoses are nasty and not put away correctly. They have already lost or damaged two nozzles. So, from now on, if they need something, they had best bring the item with them. They can't use my stuff.
