I have the guts to one of these ugly things. Mystery wood cabinet made for the addition of a TV behind the lower doors. Features the typical GE amp, PT power supply, 7189 SE output, 6X9 woofers with 4" tweeters. The one I took apart had a nice VM 1200 series changer. No way under creation is this thing worth even close to $500. Not even $50. The output tubes are worth ten times what the entire thing is.

I'll bet money the filter caps are shorted. If we are lucky, the PT is still okay.

Re: Ugly GE stereo
And, I bet "the turntable just needs a new belt" for
its idler drive changer.
I am thoroughly amazed at the console prices on CL
and FB. Unrestored Spanish Inquisition 1970'-1980's style
consoles with particle board cabinets for up to $1000.
I really wonder if people buy these items at those costs.

Re: Ugly GE stereo
The 'net has driven some prices totally insane, 5 years ago there was little to no competition for consoles, now scavengers are rampant.
That has a very similar amp to the one that was in the freebee roadside find I made a year ago. From what I've seen only the TOL GE models were very desirable, some of the lesser ones seem to have a very cheesy build. The cabinets are particularly (word chosen on purpose) lousy. I had no pangs of guilt whatever ripping the amp out of that one. Put it on my curb, posted a CL "curb alert" for a free re-purposing project, and it was gone within an hour.
