Early American Stromberg-Carlson

Post: # 4994Post William »

Here's an eBay find that is a simple Early American cabinet with Stromberg-Carlson electronics. I'm guessing the cabinet was custom built. Notice how the speakers are not mounted to the cabinet but just placed sitting on the bottom.

I do not think the price is all that bad, but, it's on the other side of the world for me.

Maybe that is a sign, Charles. I think it should follow you home. ;) :) If it was close to me, I think I would add it to my collection. :D

I just don't have the space to add another console.

Me either, but, for that one I think I would find space even if it meant one would have to go. :o

Stromberg-Carlson (made in Rochester NY) was one of the first (and only) that did consoles speakers right, in separate acoustically-designed ported cabinets. I had a larger version of this in VT when I lived there. The electronics are S-C's separate components ASR 433 or ASR-880 amp and matching tuner, PP 6BQ5 amps with hefty metal bell transformers, excellent components in their own right. This is a really nice console with clean EA styling, too bad it's on the wrong coast!

Actually, Pilot did the same thing with speakers. The Pilot I had, and wish I still did, had a Pilot 402 receiver, a Garrard changer, and speakers that were placed in the cabinet behind the cabinets grille cloth. Not sure who made the cabinet, maybe Pilot?
