1961 Magnavox console youtube video
I will have worked on three of these pretty soon, two repairs and one purchase. Until recently, I had never seen the single ended stereo amps.

My Columbia, Magnavox built, stereo has the same amp and speakers. The tuner looks like the one that is in my Symphony which is the 100 series.

This video was amusing to me for two reasons:
1. He was truly surprised it functioned. Most stuff he deals with is much more difficult to get anything out of initially.
2. The resistor failures were extreme, worse than I ever saw yet typical for Magnavox or RCA Victor of this age.

I like the way he "tells it like it is".

His brutal frankness, sarcasm and even his voice reminds me of an older friend in the business who is probably 20 years his senior.
His speedy diagnosis and comprehensive knowledge of what is really junk amazes me on every video.

Classic shango... "thick is popular these days" " always gotta lubricate the shaft" LOL!
Is it common for Maggie amps to have all disc caps underneath like this one?
Been watching his TV videos for awhile, I'm always impressed by his diagnostic ability.
Lots of weird resistor problems in this thing! Seems like modern carbon/film resistors might be a good idea.
Exact same tubes and essential circuit as my Dumont's SE 6BQ5 amp.

Re: 1961 Magnavox console youtube video
Its strange how disc and wax were interchangeably used in that range .001 uf to .05 uf
Motorola used very few wax "bombs" but Zenith RCA and Philco went big on them until end of tubes
The 93-series and AMP 175 Mags I have done had few wax bombs in comparison, similar to Motorola and Fisher.
Mr Carlsons lab discusses merits of film versus ceramic , made me think discs should be updated too.

I love Shango. If I knew how to contact him, i'd invite him to join the forum. He might not do it, but I could still ask.
Mr. Carlson is too long-winded. He blabbed on for almost 25 minutes and I have no better understanding of capacitors than I did when I started. Shango comes to the point and is funny on top of that.

I haven't failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.....Thomas Alva Edison
