When it comes to planting things I'm usually 1/2 year behind. Last year I did plant spring bulbs in the fall (finally). They all popped up this spring and looked so nice I resolved to do it again. Of course, I waited until Ace Hardware had moved them all out to make room for the Xmas stuff (yeah, it's all there already; do not get me started). So I made a quick order to Burpee and got a box yesterday. Tomorrow's chores include changing the oil in the truck, if it's not snowing, and planting those bulbs. Next spring we'll snag some cottonwood seeds as they float by.

Re: The cucumbers are up
I don't know why these cucumber plants impress me so much. This is the first time I have, by myself, actually started cucumbers from seeds. The wife usually does it, or I buy plants.

Re: The cucumbers are up
Since I posted last, the cucumbers started vining and one bloomed. Then, they all died! I have no idea what happened. I don't believe they got frost-bitten. I had them up on the patio and covered then when it frosted. I noticed one day that one of the smaller ones looked wilted, then another and another until they were all laying in the dirt. I don't see where a critter was digging and got them, either. I reckon I'll replant and see what happens. They were looking really good, until they weren't.
