I actually watched this video awhile back, found it very interesting. When the video concludes with "WLW", the 500,000 watt station in Cincinnati, it fails to mention who owned the station. Powel Crosley Jr., President of Crosley Radio Corporation, was the owner of said station and was also the inspiration behind the Crosley WLW super radio.

I've listened to most of those, except the western ones. There was real variety on the air then. I just loved the glowing radio dial--usually a bluish-green in the car radio, more commonly tending toward yellow at home and on old radios. Last weekend I was listening to WSM at 650 on the dial. During a hard time in my life, as a student, I'd escape mentally by imagining driving on down the road in the dark with the radio on, that dial glowing at me. Radio was how my parents knew about the Renfro Valley Barn Dance, and they'd point out the signs when we drove past on the way to Alabama. Or Dad would pint out that KDKA was the first commercial broadcaster.

I wondered why it was so hard to get the stations I grew up with after getting back from my tour in Germany in the spring of '81.
