1957 V-M 1275 Tri-O-Matic

[Hi-Fi-Mogul]

This gal was sittin' in bubble wrap on a chair for some time,
and I forgot what was in it, so I had a nice surprise opening her up.

Amp is 35W4, 12AT6, 50C5, with a pristine 5 x 7 speaker.
All original V-M branded tubes there.

The 1200A changer's original idler wheel was still good !

The original Sonotone 2-T still put out that 1 volt,
but I replaced it with a Pfanstiehl stereo cartridge.

The cabinet was pretty soiled, and cleaned up well.

After changer was restored and amp re-capped,
the sound is very nice.

The little amp is very quiet. [ : )

Notice the spent match I found under the record changer.

Someone had too many martinis and cigs at the party.

Nice V-M, Mr. Mogul, and looks very similar to my V-M 1280. If yours sounds as good as mine you have a very nice machine there.

I've always liked the looks of V-M devices of that era. But what were they thinking when they they put three tubes right underneath the filter cap? Didn't the engineers understand convection?

Yes, I realized that when I put the amp back in,
and checked the new caps temp after running the amp.
They were toasty to touch.

Caps are rated at 105 Centigrade, but why
expose them to such an environment ?

I'll go over lots of my photos to evaluate where to
re-locate the caps.

I had to also add some restraint to the wiring in
that area, so it wasn't hanging near the tubes.
