"Here Come The Rattlesnakes"....Wendy Bagwell
One of my favorite country comedians. He's a minister, has a pretty good musical group, "The Sunlighters" and is so funny he makes me laugh to this routine I have played dozens of times, but it never gets old. Charlie Douglas and Jerry Clower are the other two, but Bagwell mainly does religious content
. His stories are stuff of legend. One about a Volkswagen car, one about the bus getting on fire and this one. I thought maybe you guys would enjoy this.

Jerry Clower is one of my favorite comedians. He has lots of good stories but I think the one about Newgene and the lion in the yard is my favorite. I know one person that is a lot like Newgene and he tells some ridiculous lies expecting people to believe them. I have been known to egg him on some, but I usually get in trouble with my wife as soon as we get by ourselves.

My favorites by Jerry Clower are "The Old-Timey Icebox" and "The Coon-Hunting Monkey". I can relate to both of those stories....Jerry Clower talked exactly like my grandfather. I can hear grandpa telling his stories when I listen to Jerry Clower.

My dad, Mississippi born and bred, loved Clower's one about a 'coon hunt and the punchline “Just shoot up here amongst us, 'cause one of us gotta have some relief!". I think I might still have that record somewhere!

Grandpa was born in "Loozanner", Louisiana to the rest of us. I think the story you are talking about is where Jerry and Newgene go coon hunting and run across a bobcat. I have the story on a tape, but don't remember the exact title. I'll look it up...

Jerry had lots of good tales and knowing how to tell them goes a long way. The coon hunting story was a good one and I really like the one where the car stops and they put the fire out. The praying bear was awesome too. I have a CD around here somewhere with some of his best on it. I might have to get it out and listen to it again.

When I was hauling grain, WWL in New Orleans and WBAP in Dallas and WSM in Nashville were the stations you listened to if you wanted to listen to radio in the wee tinies of the night. Charlie Douglas was on WWL, Bill Mack was on WBAP and various personalities, among them Grant Turner on WSM. All three of these stations played material by Charlie Douglas, Jerry Clower, Wendy Bagwell, Archie Campbell, Minnie Pearl and Justin Wilson. WSM and WWL were "barn burners" in Southern Indiana. They would come in like FM all night without fading.
