Re: Merry Christmas to you all!!
Well, it's not going to be white here in lower Michigan, where it ought to be. Spring has come to these parts and seems likely to stay that way through the weekend. We had a promising start after Thanksgiving with lots of snow and serious cold, then had a great melt-down. Weekend before last, snowshoeing. Last Sunday, X-C skiing (inland, in the woods, there was just enough snow). Today, roads clear and temps in the 30s so I rode the bike to work then downtown to the movie tonight.
Santa will surely find some way to make the rounds even without snow.

We had lots of cold weather earlier and December was on pace for a record amount of snow but I haven't checked to see if it made it or not. Our temperatures have also warmed up considerably compared to not too long ago. It's supposed to get up to about 60° today and 66° tomorrow so it doesn't look like we'll have a white Christmas either.
Here's to wishing all of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I also hope you don't get coal or switches and ashes in your stocking.

I listened to the annual "Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols" live from England on the radio this morning. That really marks the holiday for me. Live broadcasts are always exciting for me. On a family trip to Chicago when I was a kid, we went to a broadcast of Don McNeil's Breakfast Club, a network morning radio show.

I also attended a couple shows of Garrison Keillor's Prairie Home Companion[/i] in East Lansing, and taping of the public radio young musicians show, From the Top. It's thrilling when the "On the Air" light goes on.

I hope everyone is having a good Christmas Day. Good to see a couple of our older members on the forum again. That's as good of a Christmas present as I could ever get. I miss you guys when we don't hear from you regularly.....

Here in the little town of Hart, we still have snow on the ground so we are having a white Christmas. There are patches of grass showing but for the most part it is a pretty white.
Merry Christmas to all and may 2026 be your best year ever.

Re: Merry Christmas to you all!!
We had the best Christmas in years. Only six of us, no kids, no drama. The "political" and the "cellphone" crowd stayed home this year. No arguments, lots of reminiscing about days past, those who have gone before us. We each shared a good Christmas memory. We had a standing rib roast that was incredible. The downside was that we had baked potatoes instead of mashed, but you can't have everything. Potatoes baked on a barbecue grill, never had that before and they were fantastic.
I got a portable DVD player. It has provisions to connect it to a TV via a USB cable, or you can watch is standalone. I'm looking forward to tinkering with it.

Re: Merry Christmas to you all!!
After a good meal we called relatives. Spent over an hour with cousin, getting caught up and trying to confirm or elucidate old family stories from the earlier generation, who are now--save one in-law--dead. For those of you with older folks still around, ask them lots of questions and listen, because once they're gone, so is the knowledge. I'd love to her details of Granny's cross-country auto trip, B'ham AL to SF, CA in the late 30s with two daughters and a couple of the elder one's classmates in the car, for a sorority convention. Cross-country trips were no small undertaking in those days. No standardized highway signage; paper maps of uncertain detail; no interstate system; less reliable vehicles and tires; no credit cards. And, for that matter, not much money. I did hear a new story about Granny's tab at the grocery store during the Depression when they couldn't pay. The grocer called her and said "The big boss is coming tomorrow, bring me a check." She did, and once the management left, he gave it back to her because they both knew it would bounce.
