Astrosonic 100 - owners manual needed
I just restored the innards of a 1966 Astrosonic 100 "Coronation" for my neighbor, who will be moving soon. It will no longer be dormant in the corner of a finished basement, only looking good. The operators manual is missing, the owner wants one for obvious reasons, this sounds fantastic now. The only difference to an Imperial was an extra pair of horns, same amp?
The radio chassis R207 has a preamp board that needed 5, 50 and 100 mf caps 25v, plus the intense cleaning of the tone switches, which always seem to cause major symptoms. Amp chassis A575 has about 15 more electrolytics, measuring ESR values double. A 500 mf 50v cap measured 1027 mf, its how these fail. A negative and positive 32v supply used to run doubled-up RCA pnp-Germanium output transistors to achieve that extra power. The player was a dream fix, due to proper storage/dormancy
, just a new 557 stylus which I had.

Re: Astrosonic 100 - owners manual needed
Looking on E-payne, sellers of Magnavox consoles use terms loosely, like "rare". Of the 88 listings that I saw, few tube models and so many 5-knobbers and even cheaper SS models. Prices range from $150 to $5000, not even close to what each is worth, high or low.
So, the 6-knob models using the A575 amp, tend to be the desirables as I can tell from recapping and restoring of MANY Astrosonic models of the 1963-70 era.

My experience with tube and solid state Magnavox stereos is that the solid state models outperform the tube sets hands down, even the lower-end five knobbers. They don't have the nice hardwood cabinets and don't have as much collector appeal, but Magnavox upgraded their products when they went solid state in 1963. I don't believe the Astro-Sonic sets will be as collectible as the tube stuff, though. Magnavox fixed the wimpy bass with the SS models. The cabinets are the downsides to the SS models.

I credit Magnavox for not changing the familiar player based on price level. RCA and Zenith had basic and studiomatic upgrade types
The bottom of this cabinet is p-board like my 63 Imperial 3ST661, in same price range as this one.

Magnavox used particle board in their cabinets so as to help prevent drumming. That wasn't the issue. The plastic front was what made their cabinets look cheap. Magnavox also never made a hybrid chassis for their console stereos.

Re: Astrosonic 100 - owners manual needed
Had to replace the record spindle, a 45 adapter ring is tell-tale on the platter trim and the spindle had just enough damage to the record drop pawl, a record would not drop, fortunately
Anyone know where I can get an operators manual or copy???
I got one from downloads for the Motorola, thought we had those so what gives?
Please, this is the first time someone actually wanted one and it was missing.
