Old Magnavox, needs new life.

Post: # 24827Post pgcle »

Have an old Magnavox 1ST2740P that works, but I would like to 'upgrade'.

I want to keep the speakers and utilize modern electronics and bluetooth.

Looking for information on what kind of power the speakers run on & it looks like there is a capacitor between the larger and smaller speakers.

Thanks for the help.

Welcome aboard! This is a console stereo forum where we work hard to preserve console stereos and record players so we can enjoy them for another 60 years. We don't advocate removing the original electronics. Some members do add Bluetooth, but that is about as far as we go with modifications. The original electronics can be rebuilt and will work best with the speakers and cabinet accoustics. The capacitors on the speakers are the crossover network. This device separates the higher and lower frequencies then feeds them to the appropriate speakers. There are instances where "spare" components are made into something other than how it was originally designed. Occasionally, one runs across good components housed in a cabinet beyond help. We have members who are willing to talk you thru the repair of your console if that is something you would consider. Good luck!

Just as a gentle reminder, the rules say that new members must post their location in their user profile. If you would see to that, it would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Welcome, pgcle, and what Electra 225 said. Your model 1ST2740P is called the Intermezzo and is from around the 1961 model line up. Since it is 60 plus years old and probably has never been serviced it needs capacitors replaced along with any out of tolerance resistors. Once that is done I think you might be surprised at the improvement in your sound quality and while the service is being done you can at a blue tooth input. If you like to listen to vinyl, a changer service is also recommended. Please consider keeping it original, it is worth having a piece of vintage electronics.
