"...not your average "Joe"".......

Post: # 21973Post electra225 »

Our local plumbing company quoted us $1700 to install a taller toilet in the wife's bathroom. I ran down to Home Depot this morning and bought a Kohler 19" toilet for $250. I think I can install it in about an hour. I reckon running 150 plumbing trucks and advertising on TV every 30 minutes costs money, but Jeez....... ;)

I can remember when you could get a Home Depot house brand toilet for $49, including the wax ring and attachment bolts. We used them all the time and they worked just fine. An American Standard toilet was over $500....

I believe one reason that plumbing companies charge so much for the taller toilets is that they are usually tax deductible since they are considered handicap equipment.

The wife figured we had saved so much money yesterday, maybe would could save even more if I replaced the toilet in the other bathroom. We may have to hire the Brinks truck so we can haul our savings to the bank....... ;)

That is a lot of money for a toilet. Was the porcelain gold plated?

I won't mention the plumbing company who wanted all that money to install a toilet. The title of this topic is their moniker on their TV ads. They get carried away with charging sometimes. We use them occasionally and they do good work. When we had our water system installed, they were the cheapest by several thousand dollars. When we put in new kitchen cabinets, we had to move the ice line to the refrigerator about a foot over. They wanted $1800 to move the line, plus another $600 to repair the drywall. Our next door neighbor had a PEX tool, he moved the line then I repaired the drywall. Cost me $12 plus a case of adult beverage. I guess people bend over and pay that kind of money, or they wouldn't charge those prices.
