Facebook Liaison

Post: # 21359Post electra225 »

Neither of the moderators of our forum, nor myself, belong to Facebook. There is at least one popular group on Facebook that deals with record players and console stereos. I know, also, that some of our members do belong to Facebook and participate on those groups. We propose that we have one of our members volunteer to be the liaison between Facebook groups of like interest and this forum. Maybe we can entice some of those folks to join us here on occasion. This will be a strictly volunteer position. We need someone who believes in this forum and has connections on Facebook to bring the two groups together. This might develop into a moderator position on this forum. This position has been suggested by members and also by my crackerjack Moderators, so let's give it a whirl. It might be fun for the volunteer to name the position. Let's toss this around a bit and see if we can come up with something that will work.

This position, along with developing the Gallery are two improvements we want to make in the next couple of months. Our forum hosting is due to be renewed in July. Last year this time, we were deep into the updates. We're planning a tune-up again this year. We want to add a couple other features. The moderators suggested we add an extension to the software that notifies our members of current topics of discussion. Some of our members who don't post very often many feel more included if they know what is going on. They will receive notifications via email and may opt out if they find them undesirable.

I don't know whether you have noticed or not, but we have been having a lot more traffic lately. We had 44 users online on Saturday afternoon, ARF only had 40 at the same time. This increased traffic is partly due to the fact that our post count has been rising, which increases our presence in search engines, which increases our traffic even more. Like sales in retail equals more working hours, posts in forums equal more traffic to the site. This we need for growth. We are always going to be a small forum by design. We go for quality above quantity, I reckon.... ;)

I want to thank each and every one of you guys for your support and participation on the forum. This forum will soon be three years old, come July 9. We started on the spur of the moment when Vintage started dying. I appreciate you all hanging in there and for keeping our core group together. And thanks to our Moderators who guide the forum and who put up with me.... ;) :D

The Gallery is in the works. I'll have to get with Mark and get it going. I appreciate your efforts on behalf of the forum, Elton.
