The seller has doubts if it can be repaired because it has tubes (!!!). Take advantage of doubt and negotiate a better price! That's just a few miles from where my '61 Chevy and '61 sailboat live.

If I'm not mistaken, those were TOTL units for RCA back in the day with lots of tubes in both the receiver and amp and I'm thinking 6BQ5'S in PP. The cabinet looks to be in great shape and the price is right too, and like Chris said, maybe for even less money. Elton, are you going for it? It would make a nice addition to your collection. I hope someone here on the forum ends up with it.

Here's are a few ads that show the different models.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/284867930264?h ... R8j6uYKIYw

I'm not sure if this is the exact model/chassis as the one in Elton's Facebook post, but it has to be close.

Yes, Bill this is a 1962 or 1963 Spinet style model, difference being whether it has FM MPX on the receiver/tuner chassis.

3VF or 2VF should begin the model number. I have a sweet walnut contemporary 1963 model that I have not done much with yet. Not in those ads, but the one I have has 5x7 mids and 3 inch angled tweets in the upper section, which is only 7 inches high. The 12" woofers are the only speakers in the lower section.

The 1963 model has mpx on-board and that same RP218 changer, one of RCA's best except for that lousy cartridge design. The amp is RS177, which is a stereo PP 6BQ5.

Oh, it definitely comes apart, you can see the supports that hold the upper and lower cabinets together in the photos. And like Greg said, it's easier to ask forgiveness than permission. ;) :) Go for it!

He refused to accept any offers at all... even though it looks like it came right out of the showroom ... it has many issues and he would not even drop it 10 bucks .... this is one time I did not let my emotions get the better of me .... I told him good luck ....it would be one more for the dumpster when I croak ... I have many consoles now that no one wants except for free... spend 50 bucks , put another 100 into it to get it working right and give it away ... done with that ...

For disposing of things, maybe contact the vintage-equipment guy in Washington downtown in Bay City? He was with the old-records guy but they split up and the record store is on 22nd (Kosciuszko Street, for natives). The record store had some equipment on display too.

I know how you feel, Elton. I figure that no matter how upside down I get in a project, it is cheap entertainment. The wife says "it keeps him out of the bars and off the streets". When I croak, it will be somebody else's problem to get rid of all this stuff.... ;)

Hold off a little longer, you might get it for $10 after he figures out that "first money is best money". He would have been smart to accept your offer, then offer to help you load it...... ;)

If he doesn't have it, I'd make sure he has your number. He may grow weary of waiting for the Ebay fairies to come give him his price.

Then there will be shipping on top of the purchase price..... ;)

Making sure the seller has your number is a good suggestion...... ;)

You actually sold two items, how ever did you manage that??? I hope you end up with the new RCA, and since it's a hutch unit I think it would look good in your dining room.

Well the sales are pending , the guy is supposed to be here Sunday , he sounds like one of us , his latest passion is consoles , I will tell him about this site ...
Here are some pictures... the guy was real nice, he is cleaning out his parents home because they have moved to an adult care facility...the poor guy came all the way from Alaska to clean out the house . this unit was his grandparents console and it got handed down to his parents...he told me they used to play all the records on this when they were kids , this was on the way to goodwill until I contacted him.. I also got the remote speakers they had mounted in the finished basement they are also RCA and were purchased with the stereo ...
