Imperial/concert grand sliding glass tops ?
Does anyone have the missing glass tops for this console? Or a rough idea of what a glass shop would charge to make replacements? Thanks

Plain old plate glass has always seemed like a bargain to me--I've bought big pieces for desk tops and small ones for shelves, etc. with polished edges. But the originals were reverse-painted, weren't they? Why not replace the glass with veneer plywood? It would be inexpensive and the veneer could be finished to match the existing wood finish.

That's a Magnavox Imperial Danish, model 1 ST-220H from 1959 and also one of my favorite cabinets. I like the front firing woofers and the horns set at an angle. As far as the glass goes, it was probably tempered and yes it was reverse painted which probably would be the expensive part to duplicate.

I had the brilliant idea once of having glass sliders made for the Symphony. Tempered glass, reverse grain, was going to cost $600 each.

Bit pricey, considering. Never liked Maggie's sliding tops on all years, or the front mounted receivers found on these years. The seller is just S of Sing-Sing, wonder if he recently escaped? lol That place is one forbidding looking institution.

I like the sliding doors. I especially like the glass sliders. The early Concert Grand had them on the top and on the front both. The tempered glass is not so much the expense, it is finding somebody to do the reverse grain in the correct pattern. I was going to have a shop that did fake wood grain on old car moldings do the sliders for me.

Hello guys. I have several different patterns of the reverse painted glass. My preference on the consoles is the burl pattern. But for absolute stand out look the black and white on the ebony is pretty good. The straight grain is kind of Meh to me. The pinball people have the same flaking issue that we have. But they are a silkscreened process. On the magnavox's It looks to me as if its a photographic process as I can see the pattern is the same its just the size of the glass that is different. One thing I would like to try for a preservation process is to spray the back with triple thick lacquer it apparently will strengthen the silkscreen printing on the backlglass of the pinball machines.
