Avatar filesize

Post: # 60Post electra225 »

There has been a discussion about avatars. This system wants an avatar with a filesize under 6 MiB. Here is an article I found. There has to be an easier way. I'll get with the support people the first of the week and see what they have to say. You may notice this article is from another pHpBB forum, so we may not be alone......

As you can see, we MAY have the avatar situation under control. Some suggestions, if I may.

First, don't use a facial picture for your avatar. Either yours or someone else's. They can be used for identity theft. Both the forum software and the hosting company advise this.

Next make sure your picture is no larger than 235 pixels wide by no larger than 180 pixels high. Many pictures taken with a phone are too large. Choose the picture you want to use on your computer, right click and choose "resize". It will tell you the dimensions of your picture. Resize it to the maximum dimensions I mentioned. Then log on to the forum, click on your username under the "log in" icon. Choose "Profile" then choose "Edit Avatar". Choose the picture you just sized, then hit submit. If all is well, you should be good. The picture I posted is really too long. I made it the maximum size. We can go higher a little and narrower a little if we need to. Default was set for 6MiB which is about the size of half your little fingernail.

I can't get it to accept any size picture. Not even the avatar I used for the site that begins with A.

I have the maximum width for the avatar set too wide. This part needs tweaking still. At least we know it works. It likes a filesize no larger than 6MiB. That's pretty small.

Hello probably a dumb question, I don't know anything about this stuff. But why can't there be a selection that will shrink a photo to fit a avatar when you put it in? Hydro

Not a dumb question at all. We are all learning, especially me. ;)

You can actually change the filesize of the picture you want to use. Your computer should be able to do that for you. Right click on the picture you want, scroll down to "Resize". Choose the last selection. That will measure the picture for you. IT will allow you to reset the size you want. No bigger than 180 pixels high by 235 pixels wide. Most all pictures taken on a phone will be too big.
