Pictures from the BOP show, 2019

Post: # 12413Post electra225 »

If you guys don't want to see car pictures, you can blame Roger. ;) ;)  He got me interested in digging these out. A walk thru memory lane. I believe Bill was at this show. This was the Buick, Olds, Pontiac show held at the Pavillions by the Pontiac club. First up, my favorite car, a 1964 Pontiac Bonneville Brougham, four door hardtop, 421, eight lugs, black with black vinyl top. The ONLY gripe I have with this car is that it has crank windows.

Then for Chris, we have Dave Jewett's '38 Buick Special with dual sidemounts.

Then the underhood on a '58 Limited that Art restored.

Drat! I posted the pictures backwards, so there is that. I think Dave was 95 when this picture was taken and he had driven the car to the show, about 25 miles.

I was there, and wasn't this the show that had the Bonneville wagon that had every option available that year?

Yessir. I think I have a picture of it somewhere. That was one of the few Pontiacs Art ever restored. Sitting by the Bonne is your old buddy, Marie.

She's a sweetheart, and quite the character. What did she call me? "The kid from Michigan", or something like that.

About the only reason I can think of for retiring would be to have time to devote to my '38. The R word does not occupy much attention in my brain.

Never too many car pictures, they' re always welcome, don't be shy put your Electra pics on here! inquiring minds want to see.

'63/'64 Bonnevilles & GPs were about as good as any full size cars ever got... real wood in the dash! Those dashes were some of the best, and the clean unadorned body designs were just tops. A neighbor had a Navy blue '63 Bonne, it made our '63 Ford look like a lump. That was one beautiful car. And that '58 engine compartment is to die for, perfection!

Chris: Don't retire from something, retire TO something. In my case there's been plenty of fun stuff to do, there's no shortage of stuff do yet, too much, it's hard to choose! believe me, you'll have no regrets! And you can always keep your hand in by volunteering or consulting.

"The tall guy from Michigan", I think was her handle for you, Bill. I have lots of pictures Roger, trust me. If I posted them all, we'd have to change the name of the forum. I have almost as many pictures of consoles and their parts in various states of disrepair. ;) ;)

I was going to say about the same thing, especially admiring that stylish yet restrained dash. I lusted after the Pontiacs in those days (must have driven my parents nuts; in the car I'd call out "There's a '63 Pontiac convertible!" and so on). After a Baroque period in the late 1950s, GM calmed down and made simple, handsome, honest automobiles. After the '60s things went to "deleted" in a hurry. The early 60s were when Ford made its beautiful Lincolns, to my eye some of the most striking cars ever built. Some of the Chrysler products were lookers, too.

Back in the days when my feet were made of lead, I was a bit unenthusiastic about our Chevy's modest acceleration potential and the rudimentary 2-speed Powerglide. As an old guy, it's plenty zippy for me.

My uncle in Alabama had a sweet '64 Tempest, 2-dr. hardtop with bucket seats, the little V-8, and 4 speed on the console. A simple but very decent car. A buddy's schoolteacher mom had a '63 Grand Prix with the aluminum wheels and tri-power 421. Oh my.

All in all, a good decade for cars, if not for the environment.

Just post a couple of the outside, a dash and engine pic Greg. I think I saw pics of it a long time ago in VintageHiFi but it's
been quite a while and don't remember it. If there's a thread w/ pics here please point me to it.

I think the '63 GP was best of all, it looks more elegant and simple than even the '64 version somehow. Very restrained use of chrome and gorgeous lines and I like the '63 headlight treatment and grille/front end better. It also has the best dash imho, real wood, and I like the round angled "gages" (GM speak lol). It's my favorite Pontiac.

My parents purchased a new 63 Grand Prix. It was a gold color with white top and while leather interior. It was the most gorgeous car I had ever seen. Bucket seats, the vacuum gage in front of the shifter, real wood dash and a 389 4 barrel with dual exhaust. It was a head turner, and would get up and go. My Mom had a lead foot, so she loved that care.

These pics may not be of the BOP, but they were taken at the Pavillions, perhaps when an auction was in town.

The Beaumont is a '68 Chevelle SS 396. I have a picture of one based on a '65 Catalina, but I haven't found it yet. Check out the '60 Eldo with what would be the Buick version of Lido Lavendar with a white vinyl top. I put my vote in for the '64 and '66 big Pontiacs being my favorite years.
