Bob Lido and the Hotsy Totsy Boys

Post: # 12405Post electra225 »

This ultra-talented division of the Lawrence Welk show was a favorite of mine back in the day. Mr. Harris, our band director, was a fan and we always tried to play songs the Hotsy Totsy Boys played on LW. All the instruments with the exception of Bob Haven's trombone were heavily modified. Bob Lido played his violin with the bow on both sides of the instrument. The classical pianist/organist on the show, Bob Ralston, played the little cut-down upright they used on the show. Russ Cline played sax, Charlie Pilotta played the little cut down cornet. Dick Maloof played his cut down tuba. Jack Emil played drums and did the noisemakers. They don't make 'em like this anymore.....

Good 'ol Dixieland. When we were on a short vaca in New Orleans about 5 yrs ago we like to avoid touristy Bourbon St so went out one night to Frenchmen St, where the locals go for Jazz and everything musical, and heard the best Dixieland I've ever heard, wish I could remember their name but iirc ironically it was a visiting band from NY!
