1962 Magnavox catalog goodies

Post: # 3657Post electra225 »

I got a minute this morning while the wife was mopping the floors and I was sequestered to the den. I found the external hard drive that backed up the computer that crashed last spring. I opened the hard drive and started digging thru the goodies, pictures, music, documents. I found most of the documents from the old forum. The most interesting thing I found was the 1962 Magnavox catalog. Some of the goodies I found that I thought you guys might enjoy:

* Concert Grand was model 1ST800F in 1959-1961. For 1962, it was models 1ST700 and 1ST701. Still advertised as "100 watts undistorted power from four amplifiers"

*Model 1MV417 Stereo Theater had the eight speakers like the Symphony series, only with 12" woofers. The 1MR 418, like I have, has horns and 12" woofers with remote control. The share the same cabinet.

*The big Imperial models are not mentioned.

*The "little" Imperial models are listed. Models 1ST661, 662, and 663. Horns and 15' woofers with the 93 series amp, six knobbers all.

*The Symphony series in three different versions. Models 1ST959 and 622 have horns and 15" woofers. Models 1ST655, 656, and 657 have eight speakers with 15" woofers, 93 series amp, six knobbers all.

*A Symphony model, 1ST621 has the eight speakers, with 12" woofers and the 93 series amp, series 100 tuner, a five-knobber.

I learned a lot and had my memory refreshed by this little foray into items I have in storage. There has been discussion about the features of the different models, so either this will help, or add to the confusion. ;)

We know of at least one documented 1962 big Imperial and at least one Symphony with horns and 12' speakers. Magnavox..... ;)

As the owner of what I believe to be a 1962 Concert Grand, I eagerly await the upload of the catalog. The sticker is missing from the back so I'm not sure if mine is actually a 1ST700 or 1ST701.

A 700 would be with the Traditional cabinet, the 701 would be with the modern cabinet like the one Hydro just got. The '62 models lost the remote control and the 4 ea. 5U4 rectifiers in the amps. Does yours still have the signal seeking radio tuner?

No signal seeking tuner as far as I can tell. Mine is the traditional cabinet, so the 700. Definitely no remote control and only the one rectifier tube per amplifier. Don't remember the tube number.
