1927-28 Electrola 101!

As some already know I'm a collector of antique acoustic machines and I got a "German" Electrola 101 (actually an English HMV 101 machine rebadged for the German market) back in September off Ebay. The original mainspring broke many decades ago, and of course the soundbox needed new rubber gaskets. I USUALLY redo these types of machines myself, but this time I outsourced the work to a couple guys in New York since this is a machine that's hard to get parts for inside the US so I really didn't want to goof it up I passed it to more experienced hands. Here's a video about the motor to my machine all restored. I can't wait to install it and show it playing! Apparently a WWII veteran took this back to the US from Germany!

After I watched the above video, You Tube set up another video by Mend It Mark, cleaning up the spring motor in a similar player. But, the amazing video which followed that one involved him repairing/rebuilding the "electric pickup" which was made as an add-on for the player, even striving to do it in a period-correct way. It's the predecessor of our magnetic cartridges--amazing to watch him repair this old device, complete with rewinding the bobbin--he seems to have every kind of equipment to do just about anything!
