We had a really oppressive day of western wildfire smoke. I has never been this dense. Its almost like the fires are right next door. I went out sailing this evening and with long sight lines it was even more obvious. The sun was just a golden glow in the haze.

Wildfires are at the Grand Canyon. They burned up the lodge and several other buildings. Containment yesterday was down to 4%. Low humidity and extreme drought are not helping, along with wind. We don't get the smoke down here. The jet stream carries it east. The big wildfire was caused by lightning.

Yeah, we're blanketed in Canadian smoke. I had griped about "western smoke" to my brother who lives in WY, and he took considerable offense, pointing out that it was northern smoke from Canada. Odd that he's make the point, since he's a joint US/Canada citizen. And the Canadian sources are west of me. OK, NW.

I don't much care where it's from, I'm tired of it. We had one mostly smoke-free day but for the past few it has been back again. The constant haze is oppressive.

At least we've had a few normal Michigan summer days--temps just right (below 80), nights cool. Those have been scare lately. Our forecast has some more upper 80s, 90 degree days ahead.

They call the Grand Canyon fire the Canyon Bravo fire. Currently at 112,000 acres, 11% contained. Lightning caused. We aren't getting the smoke down here. It was 114 here today. High heat and low humidity is why the Canyon Bravo fire is so hard to contain. The jet stream is carrying the smoke east. I'm not sure it goes far enough north to get to Michigan.
