I logged on to facebook and saw this Sansui AU-717 listed for $30 and it was on there for three hours already. I sent a message that I would come buy it tonight. I haven't heard back yet and don't believe I will. I'm sure that somebody is already on their way to pick this bargain up.

I sure hope you can score it, Danny. That is a steal at that price. Good luck!!

Back in the early 80's I ran a set of Sansui's (517 & 919) in biamp mode, driving a HB set of Altec 15's and EV horns in solid Oak ported cabs of 10 Cu/Ft volume.
Volume was the overall impression, as it were. They were really pretty, too.
I even latched onto one of the first CD players on the market, a Sony something. Sounded good, but the lack of media was a drag.
Its lucky I can still hear pretty well.

Thanks Greg, but I don't think I stand a chance of getting it.
I knew when I sent a message that I wasn't likely to hear back from the seller because at that price I'm sure he's receiving lots of messages. It's still listed, and I haven't heard a peep from the seller. I'd say at this point it's a bidding war and he's waiting for people to offer him a whole lot more money for it than what it was listed for.
I haven't ever heard an AU-717 but they do have a good reputation, and I do like Sansui equipment. I'm at a point in my life where I don't need more stuff, but it would've been hard to pass that up at the listed price. For the most part the only things I would like to have now is a pair of Altec Lansing Model 19s or a pair of Klipsch Cornwalls. Given the price that both of those go for, it's unlikely that I'll ever own a pair of either.

Maybe you could offer a bit more, say, $50. You never know. He may be looking for a fish. I'm not sure all that many people know what it is, and some of them who do wouldn't want to fix it if it was broke. Do you know the condition of it? Does the seller post a phone number? If it is still listed, it is probably still available.

I'm right below Louisville and there are lots of people in the area who deal with old stereos, so I'd bet he's already received offers of a lot more than $50 but I think I'll do it just for the fun of it. It says like new but it definitely ain't like new. No phone number listed but I think I will offer more but I still doubt if I'll hear from him. I haven't looked at ebay yet but I'm sure those amps bring quite a bit of money.
Edit: I sent him an offer of $100 but I still don't think I'll hear back from him, but you never know.
Edit: Facebook sent me a message that says, "Trayce is getting a lot of messages about this listing."

It definitely does not look like new, it looks like it has been stored for a number of years. I wonder if it has problems?

I'll never know if it had problems or not Bill because it's gone now. I'm sure he was waiting for the bid to get high enough.
Correction, it's still listed. I guess he's still holding out for more money.

You are probably right, Danny, and I am guessing he has offers higher than yours. Maybe for the best, as you said, you need to thin things out.
