Classic Hifi Care

This is another quality piece acquired for $20 on CL, well-cared for in a clean home, bought new about a mile from the house.
It came to full life with only a control cleaning and replacement of two 1500 mf power supply capacitors. Plus and minus 17 volt supplies tells me this is 20 watts per channel maximum based. Several years ago I found another one of these at the dump, missing its back cover and lid, with a worn/weathered finish. This is a full set of spare parts and I have needed none so far.

Correction! The VLT-51 is the Ann Arbor.

The big difference is the price level and rareness of the exaggerated Danish style of the Anholt, reported to be $880 new in 1967

I suspect that oval speakers have a wider frequency range, rather than a peak loudness at a certain frequency like tweeters and round speakers.

Dave, are both of those Drexel cabinet Motorola's yours? If so, what amps do they have? You have some cool stuff.

That one in the pic is a rather unusual style... sort of modern, yet not conventionally so ...? ? The price was certainly right!

Nice... wish I could find one of those studiomatic changers for the console I have...they are not easy to find . RCA sure liked to use those big 15 x 9 ovals as woofers

My Grandparents RCA stereo theater that I have uses the oval woofers. It also has midrange, and two tweeters per side. Total of 8 speakers in all. What I have always found interesting are the highs, very clean, clear, and not lacking at all. I need to work on the changer as it needs the usual tune up. It's on the list!

Oh yes, an omission ! Those pics were copied from Etsy. I have a Motorola SK32 like the ones behind on that picture. The SK-32 has a 3-channel amp (I have two parts chassis) and this 4X6BQ5, 2 as push pull for center 15" bass woofer, the other 2 single ended for the 8", 5" and 3" drivers.

As for the RCA Ann Arbor, it is in similar condition and has been playing since last week when I replaced the 1500 uf 50 volt caps in the power supply. The controls are dirty and of course the player is not functioning, neither is the cartridge. Once you get a clear station, it sounds very good even with no real work done yet!

I have this spare, and an earlier (oval-record stabilizer) studio-matic with bad mat otherwise complete. I only want $30 for each.

Really?... does it mount or screw in from the holes in the platter?... I have been searching and found one locally.... the exact one that was in it, a RP-228 but the owner wants 100 bucks just for the changer! ... $30 sounds a lot more reasonable if your willing to part with one PM me ...if you check the classified section , I had the honor of posting the first post for one of these changers...

The screws are accessible from the top, under the mat when you align platter holes above them. The cart on the other changer is the feather ride (non-IC) like this one. PM sent, I was keeping it to see what this console needed but I'm pretty sure I wont need it now.

Nice , unfortunately I sold that RCA console just last week... gotta find more now to fill the empty spaces in the basement
