Finished up this cute 1957 Firestone branded hi-fi.
There were 3 models with the same 3 tube amp
that were apparently produced in 1956 and 1957.
A manual player, player with a V-M 950, and player
with a V-M 1200A record changer.
I have the V-M 1200A changer in the
1957 4-A-146 model, best looking design to me.
For Tone, it uses a 3 way capacitor network with a
3 position switch.
The middle position gives a very nice full range tone.
Two speakers: 6 inch and a 5.25 inch.
The 5.25 inch speaker had to be removed so
the amp chassis could be removed.
The original Sonotone 2-T cart was nicely functional,
and it was replaced with a Pfanstiehl P-228 stereo cart.
The cabinet was really dirty, and it cleaned up as well
as it could.
The 3 color scheme is very representative of 1957
design culture.
I installed some plastic feet which gives it a nice
finished touch.

Excellent work, Mr. Mogul. Curious, why two different size speakers, probably a space thing. My VM-557 has a 6" and a 5X7 and my VM-562 has two 6". Same everything except the cabinet. Interesting too, the VM-562 two 6" speakers has different designed paper cones. Is this Firestone a keeper?

Very nice, Mr. Mogul, very nice indeed!
It appears to be a very well-built instrument. Rather odd that they were still using the octal tubes as late as 1956. Most record players had gone to miniature tubes. The VM 1200 changer is a nice plus, as well. Is this one a keeper?
