Junior Brown isn't a household name and most people probably don't know who he is. I was working with a guy almost 20 years ago and he gave me a copy of a Junior CD. I didn't know who he was but I had heard one of his songs, Highway Patrol. He kind of sounds like Earnest Tubb to me.
His Surf Medley song brings a smile to my face every time I listen to it. He has another one called Rock & Roll Medley but I like Surf Medley Better. He plays so fast on some of the Rock & Roll Medley that it doesn't sound musical to me. I noticed on one of the videos that he has two banjo picks on his hand. I wish I could pick half as good as he can but I guess I don't have the talent or determination to even get close to his picking.

Re: Junior Brown - Surf Medley
Junior Brown is well known in music circles and has
an amazing talent.
That combination double neck Tele and lap Steel are
really something to watch him perform on.
He and his wife are still currently performing together.
Here's a salue to Broderick Crawford: "HIghway Patrol", ha ha !

Re: Junior Brown - Surf Medley
One thing I like about Junior Brown is that he seems to always be enjoying himself. I've saw other performers who acted like they just wanted to get it over with. You can look at the wear on the neck and know that he uses all of it.
Somebody stole his guit-steel and his wife's guitar several years ago. I don't know if he ever got them back.
I had to look up Broderick Crawford to see who he was. I might have to see if I can find his TV show, Highway Patrol.

Re: Junior Brown - Surf Medley
Dan Matthews, played by Broderick Crawford was one of my heroes when I was a kid. Howard Cherry and I played cops, no robbers. We were both the good guys. We would be on our bicycles talking "cop talk". We knew all the "10-codes". Dan Matthews drove a '55 Buick Century two door sedan, model 68. There was no Century two-door sedan officially offered by Buick in 1955. The division built a number of them specifically for CHP. All they were was a Special model 48 with the big engine and four port hole front fenders instead of the three on Specials. Some were three-on-the tree, some Dynaflow. Dan Matthews drove a Dynaflow.
My two favorite Junior Brown tunes was "Highway Patrol" and "My Wife Thinks You're Dead". Many a quarter was used in the juke box in the American Legion on the latter......

Junior Brown recorded this little ditty with Hank Thompson, not long before Hank passed away. The video is rather interesting....
