Playing the old hutch model , I noticed on moderate bass I could hear a rattling in the speakers , I figured the upper cabinet was vibrating so while playing I would hold the cabinet in various spots to see if I could stop it...nope , it almost sounds like a tear in the cone ... , so I removed the 17 screws just to uncover the speakers and take a look... I was amazed to find the woofers has worked loose , all they needed was the mounting nuts needed a good tightening.. I must say this unit is a monster with bass ... setting it on one is enough to rattle the windows ... my only complaint of this unit is the changer has no damping action while dropping the arm on the record... it drops so hard it skips the first couple grooves of the record , But I guess the 9 - 11 grams weight probably does not help...

Can you lighten the tone arm up a bit? It sounds a tad heavy for stereo records.....

I see you have a Gene Pitney record. I'm not the biggest Gene Pitney fan, although I do enjoy some of his work. He cut an album with George Jones that is really pretty good. He would have made a good country artist. I put Gene Pitney in the John Prine and McClinton crowd of artists. Not much of a singer, but the overall product was pleasant.....

Elton, you didn't happen to take a photo of the speaker compartment with the back off you would like to share?? I would love to see how the speakers are arranged in the hutch style.

Bill sorry didn't think about snapping the backside ... I can do that , just to show there is zero separation of the speakers which does nothing for the stereo separation.... but if you think about it ,,, in 1963 stereo was a new thing so I don't think the mfg worried about that stuff

The hutch RCA's were pretty interesting variations on those wonderful 63-64 models. I see those come up for sale, usually within an hour of me.

Those 9-knob preamp/receivers using on-board mpx are great performers on par with Zenith and Motorola. These tube models were matched up to SS amps in later years (63-64) Your bass description of the RS-177C pp 6BQ5 stereo amp makes me want to get my VF-516 recapped and powered up.

I know another TV tech-collector who used a RS-177 to upgrade a 1963 21" color combination model, that came with that same tuner BUT a solid state amp, of course he replaced the woofers too

I got a low rise version, with a short section above the 3/4 lid housing just the 5x7s and 3" tweeters. Two 12" are in the main cabinet, so its not exactly the same arrangement.
