Our local plumbing company quoted us $1700 to install a taller toilet in the wife's bathroom. I ran down to Home Depot this morning and bought a Kohler 19" toilet for $250. I think I can install it in about an hour. I reckon running 150 plumbing trucks and advertising on TV every 30 minutes costs money, but Jeez.......

I can remember when you could get a Home Depot house brand toilet for $49, including the wax ring and attachment bolts. We used them all the time and they worked just fine. An American Standard toilet was over $500....
I believe one reason that plumbing companies charge so much for the taller toilets is that they are usually tax deductible since they are considered handicap equipment.
