Hello everyone!

Name is Andreas,

Recently inherited a V-M Model 570 console from my grandfather. It’s in bad condition (photo below) and would like to restore it.
Had electronics as a hobby since high school, but never worked with tubes nor record players, so I took it to a professional for restoration.
Currently waiting for his feedback.

No other vintage audio equipment, but I do have a small collection of vintage ham radio transceivers.

Hope this will be a good opportunity to learn more about vintage audio equipment and hopefully collect a few more pieces :D

cheers!

There are several folks on here who are well-versed in the repair and restoration of record players. If you have had electronics training, can read a schematic, and can use basic electronic equipment, soldering iron, DMM, things like that, you should be able to do most operations on a record player. We can talk you thru the project if you would like. I've been in the electronics restoration hobby for over 40 years and just this summer started working on record changers. Good luck with your projects and welcome aboard! :D :D

Welcome! I live in Michigan, when the V-M company was located. The western side of our state was also the home of Heath and their famous Heathkits. V-M and Heath seem to share a reputation for above-average quality for the price (especially Heath, but also V-M at a lower price point). Maybe there was something in the drinking water on the west side of lower Michigan. I have a nice Model 566 V-M console, a mono version of your later stereo model.

Welcome Andreas. That's a beautiful VM console! I'm still in the early stages of learning when it comes to consoles. It just takes one to get started. My 1st console has a VM 1200 changer and it's still my favorite changer. Thanks for sharing your journey with your family heirloom. Keep us posted of the progress and future acquisitions.

And don't forget Electro-Voice was also a west coast Michigan company right along with Carbonneau Speakers.

Hi everyone!

Just an update.
Stopped by the restorer's shop today to see how the restoration is going.
They said it's almost done.

Took a quick photo. You can compare it to the one in my first post. :-)

There are still some things to be done, but most important parts are done.

I have some questions, which will post later in the V-M forum.

Wow, he did a beautiful job on the cabinet and if it sounds as good as it looks you will be a very happy man. I really love mine and listen to it often. We will look forward to hearing more from you under "Voice of Music" and will be happy to answer any questions.

I'll second the comments about the cabinet! It looks great! I hope you will enjoy it. Nothing on the planet changes 45's like a VM changer. ;) ;)
