Had a Blaupunkt car stereo in my youth courtesy of Crutchfield. This console looks to be in nice shape for a Grant. Not sure if tubed or not. Too far for me. Would eventually like to add a German console to my collection even with their engineering peculiarities.

Those German sets are BEARS to work on. Their cabinets were beautiful with piano-grade finishing but the electronics are so overwhelming and many parts unobtainable...

Not sure how they sounded, either.

A few months ago, I passed on negotiating on a Grundig console. It was at a pawn 5 minutes from my house. Unlike this unit, that one was a knee high style that didn't appeal to me. I do agree the piano finish would look nice and be in contrast to my American units but the restoration would be more than I could attempt or afford to pay someone to do.

Welcome macgolf, and your find is in Michigan. Brighton is about 3 1/2 hours from me, so kind of close but that unit is not on my radar at this time. I have a Grundig console radio that is deader than a door nail and one side of the cabinet just fell off one day as I was moving it. After really looking at the construction technics of the cabinet I was not impressed. At least with this unit anyway. I'm sure the console stereos are much better. Thanks for posting the find, it's alway good to see what is out there.

Never found any of the German radios or consoles very compelling sound-wise... speakers were a particular weak point imo, even consoles often had 6 x 9 ovals, few had big 12 or 15" woofers with decent tweeters to complement them, and I've never seen a Euro console with real power with something like EL-34s or KT-66s for outputs. The post-war scene there was one of austerity and few could afford it. Never cared for the super-shiny look either, and the service difficulty has already been mentioned. That said they are interesting nonetheless, and a fun addition to any collection.

that one is about 70 miles away from me ... I had a Grundig table top set , it played great ... but as stated in another post , they are a bear to work on especially for tube sets... parts are crammed together like it is a SS unit ...maybe they were practicing for the miniaturization of electronics then?
