Classic Hifi Care

I have this unit and never tried the aux/tape jack on it , so I connected a R2R pushed the tape button and ... it was horrible, it sounded hyper amplified and distorted and you could not turn it up past #1 on the volume control...I thought impedance mismatch until I pushed the phono button while it was playing and it sounded normal? what does the phono button have to do with the tape function?... then I asked myself ... how do you record anything on this?... there is no tape input/ output ... just the left and right jack on the back labeled Tape...to record do I have to juggle the input and output leads on the R2R? and plug in which ever I need to record or play? seems like a pretty cheap setup since this is suppose to be one of there TOTL units of the day... anyone know the proper procedure on how to use an add-on tape with these consoles ?

I have an aux. input on my RCA Home Theater and it works fine by selecting the tape function. The radio, phonograph, and tape all play where they should when selected. I wonder if you have dirty controls which are allowing some kind of cross feed. Mine does not have record out jacks, just input jacks.

Yep just as I suspected... you gotta juggle the leads of the recorder to record or playback... pretty mickey mouse setup for an RCA.... and my output from the R2R does not work on tape... as the owner's manual says it should ....

If I'm getting what you are saying, Elton, when you plug your R to R into the tape input on the back of your RCA unit, and then select/push the "TAPE" button it does not work?

No... On the tape function it has a low hum, and it is distorted , but put it on phono and it plays wonderfully....?
it almost sounds like plugging in a ceramic phono into a magnetic jack ... over amplified and distorted

Thanks for the clarification, and I have no idea why. Is this the one you demonstrated when I visited? If so, it is a great sounding RCA.
