Magnavox Imperial
I found this today on Craig's List, it's a little pricey but seems to be in excellent condition.

That is a nice one! I question the S-600 changer with an eye tube. Magnetic cartridge? Hmmm.......

Re: Magnavox Imperial
It definitely has some questionable thing's, including the price, but it is a good looker.

They're so pleasant to look at, but with the location of the receiver, difficult to spend time with the tuner.

Re: Magnavox Imperial
There is really no place otherwise to put the tuner with the components in the cabinet oriented as they are.....

Re: Magnavox Imperial
The secret: place a stool nearby. Plop your behind on it to operate the tuner. The other day at the marina another sailor asked why my knees were dirty. It's because I kneel down a lot, on the boat and elsewhere. On the boat, it keeps the CG low so I don't pitch overboard. And generally, kneeling is kinder to the elderly spine than bending over. But with a stool you get to sit and do stuff at a low level.
I built one out of scrap lumber so I could step up on it to elevate myself for placing the iceboat on the truck rack. It works for that but it is also a permanent feature of my spring sailboat preparations. I can step up to gain a foot or so of elevation when sanding & varnishing, but I can also sit on it when sorting through my supply & materials boxes, doling out some varnish, cleaning brushes, etc. One you have a good stool you'll wonder how you got along without it. When standing for long periods, the occasional chance to sit is a great relief.

I have a folding stool I use with the 153B, but it is set a bit higher than the imperial and my knees don't strain so much with a taller stool. I have a hard time kneeling any more. There are no sweet spots on my knees.

When we cleaned out my late Uncle's house he had one of those shower stools/seats, very lightweight aluminium frame with contoured plastic seat and the perfect height, use it all the time in the garage: super light yet strong and easy to move around, perfect for working on the motorcycle and any sit down projects.
Re: Magnavox Imperial
Here's the one I use. It folds to about 2 inches thick and is easy to store.

Here's mine. 2x4 legs, plus some scrap CDX ply, and a fancy 7-ply marine plywood top. Note the handle in the top for carrying.
