Windshield wipers

Post: # 15504Post TC Chris »

Some time back i posted about the Chevy's wipers not working (sounds like a stuck relay inside). I have an appointment at the transmission shop early Monday and after three or four weeks of no real rain, the forecast was for rain today and Monday (of course). When I was moaning about the wipers somebody in this group said "Buy some RainX." So today I bought and applied RainX on the Chevy. My first plan was to wait out the rain to drive the car out to where I stay, but darkness was coming. Off we went in the rain. The RainX worked pretty well, especially at speed (>45 mph). I'm hoping things will be dry on the a.m. but if not it's driveable.

I stayed up late last night and got up late this a.m. One eye opened and suddenly I thought, "OMG, I'm supposed to be at the transmIssion shop." Bounced out of bed and realized, after about 15 seconds, that it was Sunday.

Not a fan of Rain-X, but do try to replace wipers with good ones (Trico or Anco, not Bosch!) once a year in the Fall.

I mix up the days all the time now that I'm retired.
It sure is nice to "sleep in" now most of the time though, after so many years of getting up at 5:30 or 6.
When I worked in a very sketchy area of Baltimore, I had to be at work by 7 to avoid traffic and while all
the drunks were still sleeping it off on the front stoops of the row houses. The parking lot of the bank's
"Computer Ops Center" was enclosed by a 10' fence with razor wire and a guard most of the time, but
one of the secretaries still got raped in there once. Great neighborhood. Sometimes I had to park on
the street, but luckily I had a beater '72 Pinto wagon with a big primer patch on the side that no-one
would ever bother with. Looked like "deleted" but ran good and it was actually a fun car to drive!

I use Rain X and 0000 steel wool on the glass and chrome on my Buick. I use Rain X on the glass of our other vehicles. I have owned the Mini for ten years and have never had the wipers on.

Made it to the trans. shop this a.m. (on time). The owner gave it a test drive and now will consult with his older buddy who specialized in Powerglides. The owner knew about the vac. mod. pin issue in the cast-iron models.

I'm pleased with the RainX as a substitute for working wipers. Not as good as, but better than none.

The harder it rains, the better it will work. If the rain is light, the water balls up on the glass and it takes higher speed to get the water to run off. When it rains hard, it looks like the water isn't hitting the glass. It's freaky looking....... ;)
Life can be tough. It can be even tougher if you're stupid.....
