Classic Hifi Care

So here completed, is my plumbers' family's original Philco,
bought by their Dad in 1958.

The junction box was substituted using a terminal
block, for all the AC wiring removed from
that one long terminal strip that was mounted
onto the underside of the changer base.
I soldered wire lug connectors onto the new wires.

I soldered an audio female RCA jack onto the tonearm
leads on a terminal strip, and a male audio RCA plug
onto the amplifier shielded input leads.

Any future servicing will be much easier with all the
new wire set-ups.

The record changer had a final minor problem of
shutting off when the last record dropped onto
the platter.
A common malady fixed by carefully bending the
record support arm down a bit.

Scuffed platter mat and cabinet look a lot better now
after cleaning and detailing.

AC cord re-routed to rear of cabinet with a strain
relief plug added.
I had 2 nicer knobs I put on the amplifier controls.

The three speakers (woofer, 2 tweeters) have no
capacitor for a crossover, but they sound very good.

Took me awhile to do it all, but I learned a lot.

Looks great, Mr. Mogul. Is that the platter mat you used ink on? It looks great. I wanted to try that trick on my Magnavox record player I'm redoing, but I can't get a center trim piece to fit the mat. I reckon I'll have to buy a new mat to get a trim piece that will work. Making the junction box will certainly make future service work easier.

I'm inspired to get on to another of my own home girl
hi-fi's waiting for restoration.

The smaller record players like this one and the one I'm doing can be as much work and take as much time to rehab as a console. The performance of the smaller instruments can be better than one would expect. Do they make the calligraphy ink in brown?

There are walnut color inks I found doing
an internet search.

Use "calligraphy ink brown" for search terms.

Wow, looks good... the interior is even as clean
