Did some damage at Sally's

Post: # 1058Post walyfd »

Went to SA yesterday not expecting much. Left with 2 boxes of Duke, Basie, Ella, Sarah Vaughn, Dinah Washington. Lena Horne...

Pictures too large to post but I have enough new stuff to last all winter if I play them once.

That was a great find, I'm jealous!! Just how many records did you end up with? Were they in good shape?

boxes?...wow... I think I go to far if I bring home a dollar's worth from the local second hand store .... but a dollar's worth is 10 records as they are 10 cents each...

Well, it was like 80 albums and 10 were 2 lp sets because the bill was $90... a lot of it was stuff I'd find at record shows for 10 and up...

2 lp set of Sammy live at the Sands, Lionel Hampton at Carnegie Hall. Ella's Cole porter Songbook... Duke at Newport 1956... if I were an earl grant fan, I could have had his anthology....

Sad thing is in 20 years or so, somebody else will be buying them from MY estate... we only rent them!!!!

What is Sally's? Is that a person or a place?

Do you wash them before you play them?

Oh, yeah. And clean the covers and replace any missing sleeves, especially those plastic ones Columbia used. I hate those...

Time for a Bags Unlimited order.

I do the same, and try and get the damp smell out out of the covers too. Most records I find here in Michigan have been kept in a basement for years. The covers really smell moldy and actually have mold on them sometimes. I like finding records in AZ while out there during the winter. No mold there! :)

Remember the ammonia trick. Put the smelly things in a box with a bowl of household ammonia and let sit a while. Great for removing smells.

I did not know that, Chris. Thanks for the tip, and I will definitely give that a try and I'll get my sinuses cleaned out too. ;) :)
