How big of a player was Arvin in the console market?... I have seen plenty of portables and radios ... I recall seeing a low buck model from the 60's but it was just plain jane basic...never saw another that I can remember .... I picked up this record set made for Arvin from the local second hand store and it got me wondering... how prolific were the Arvin Models?

I never knew they produced a console, just radios and portables so I'm no help. Elton, I'm thinking if they went to the trouble to have a record made they must have had a few consoles or maybe hi-end portables.

Arvin Industries has an interesting history. A real Indiana company, they also made car parts, particularly exhaust parts. They bought DuMont in the 1950's. I'd say their footprint in the stereo business was fairly brief. Maybe this will help.....

I saw one at a St.Vincent de paul second hand store. It looked like a small GE clone console , but it said arvin on the right speaker grille... never looked close to see what it had in it , it didn't interest me at the time, that article says they did delf into some consumer electronics , but it was pretty vague , as said it could not have been very long ...

I have an Arvin toaster, likely post-war. I had an Arvin-branded 1500 watt portable base-board style heater that was a valued garage companion on a cold night if I had to do interior work.

I have this radio https://radioatticarchives.com/radio.htm?radio=6446 and no TV's or consoles, though some were made in the 50s.

Unfortunately, this radio is missing from the article by Harry Rinker, who is pretty thorough otherwise. https://radioattic.com/item.htm?radio=1040043

Here's my smallest Arvin, 2 tubes, TRF, metal case AC-DC (metal cases on AC-DC radios always make me a bit nervous).

Two tubes? What numbers are they and what does each tube do. One has to be a rectifier, the other has to be an RF amp and an AF amp. Interesting. I have heard of three-tube TRF sets, never heard of a two tuber. Pictures? Maybe a 70L7 and a 35Z5, something like that? ;) ;)

The antique radio museum site says 70L7 and 25B8, both dual-section tubes. A slightly different model had a rectifier tube. I'll bet this one has a selenium rectifier. I thought I knew where mine was but it may be in the storage unit, so I cannot verify.

70L7 is a combination rectifier and output tube.

Thanks, Ken. I knew the 70L7 was a combination, I just had the wrong combination. I'd think that radio was too old for a selenium rectifier.

Sho 'nuff. I saw the tube diagram and assumed the diode was a detector.
